What High Arches Do to Foot Mechanics

Load stays on the outer edge of the foot — the lateral side — rather than transferring across the forefoot normally.

Look at the bottom of a well-worn pair of your shoes. Overpronators wear out the inner heel and inner forefoot. Supinators wear out the outer heel and outer forefoot. This is the most common insole mistake for high-arched people. The term “high arch insoles” sounds like it means insoles with a high arch profile — insoles that match the elevated arch. This is wrong. A high arch insole for a high-arched foot should provide gentle contact and support under the arch without pushing against it. The goal is to fill the space under the arch so the foot has more distributed ground contact — not to push the arch higher.
